If you’re in need of a breather or slower pace of life, head down the coast to Swanton Farm.
The melody of waves crashing along the cliffs and rush of winds swooshing through the car will draw you into
cruise control. Pulling up to the farm, you’ll be greeted by a rusted yellow truck and baby blue shed with comfort food to
appease all cravings. Creak the swinging door open, and you’ll find a colorful interior filled with antique decor, vintage
games, homemade pies, vegan soup and all the other jams and berries you’d expect. Take a moment to sit and play
“Over the Moon” or grab a basket and head to the fields to harvest your afternoon snack.
Some people sit and linger, book in one hand and berry truffles in the other, but my favorite is to grab the goods and head
down to Shark Fin Cove for a picnic. If you’re lucky, they’ll have the airstream out with fresh bread, honey, and cheese.
Whichever you choose, don’t forget to pay at the table. You won’t find a cashier waiting around. They run on
old-fashioned trust in humankind and let customers pay on their own when finished.
There’s just something about a farm like this that transports you back in time. Close enough to civilization but far enough
from the buzz of everyday life, Swanton Farm is a go-to when I’m in need of fresh air and space.
